Yesterday over 500 people gathered on Maida Hill Market to celebrate Irish Day. It was a really great day, with plenty of good music, dancing in the streets and a free barbecue all day!
Some pictures are already online here – we’ll have ours up soon….
Everyone in Maida Hill was Irish for the day. The whole community got together to enjoy singing and dancing – and we served over 700 burgers and sausages! It was fantastic to see all our neighbours, young and old, enjoying the day together and really living it up. We even danced the conga!
The celebration was opened by Patrick Maguire, a local author & artist and there were brilliant performances by David White, Rosemary Delaney, Murphy Diggins School of Dance, Podge and Rodge and Mike Lee. Photos of all the acts are available.
John Simmance, a local resident with strong Irish connections organised the whole day – and lead the dancing. We are extremely grateful to our local sponsors who made the event possible. The acts were sponsored by the Prince of Wales pub. The popular barbecue, sandwiches and soft drinks were sponsored by Westway Estate Agents, St Josephs RC primary school lent us the stage, tables and chairs, and Harrow Road Neighbourhood Partnership and WECH provided support and promotion for the day.
