This day is predominantly drop-in, but the office skills workshop must be booked to ensure a space. This will be a very practical, engaging, short workshop about the issues we all encountered when beginning paid work – how to establish a routine in your new role, how to communicate effectively with colleagues, how to avoid office faux pas, your working rights to remember, understanding pay and procedures…… We currently have 9 spaces left on this workshop. Again, computers, recruiters and advisors will be available alongside employment opportunities from 12-4pm.
Family Day 2010 boasted a Capioera Extravaganza, puppetry, art and crafts and some glorious facepainting. A selection of photos from the day are available below….

Apprenticeships Day at WECH Community Centre has generated a lot of interest as we have a number of organisations attending who are actively recruiting for paid apprentices. These include positions within Crossrail, Headmasters hairdressing college, Plumbing apprenticeships, Kingsway College, the London College of Beauty Therapy and others….. We will have computers available, alongside facilitators from the National Apprenticeships Service, London Apprenticeships Company and Vital Regeneration for drop in apprenticeship search and sign up all day. Headmasters hairdressers have also offered participants vouchers for a discount haircut or styling at their exclusive salon – so you can head over to get some free pampering from them and find out first hand about the skills of the Headmasters apprentices. We have small sessions taking place at 1pm (Plumbing and trades) and 3pm (Beauty and retail) where you will be able to meet current apprentices and employers and hear more about the realities of an apprenticeship. We currently have ten places left on the 1pm session and 15 places left on the 3pm session. It would also be great to get a lot more girls along to this day – so ladies, please sign up – there are FREE mini-manicures available for participants! You can call 0208 968 5543 and speak to Kierra to register or contact hrnp@ghg.org.uk with your details.

You are all invited to join us at Londonprintstudios (425 Harrow Road) from 7pm on Thursday 5th August for a very musical evening of history….
Londonprintstudios are currently holding ‘Groove Grove Graphics’, an exhibition about the growth of the London and local music scenes which showcases some of the sounds and imagery of musical culture over the past century. To accompany this, North Paddington History Group is supporting a Tom Vague Musical presentation and slideshow of North Paddington’s musical history. This event is free and will be accompanies by wine and nibbles. It is suitable for participants from the musical history walk and others who are new to the subject.
So…. come and hear the soundtrack of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, check out the exhibition and get some details on our musical heritage! We hope to see you there!
